Getting Started

Your first EUDR due diligence assessment — from sign-in to evidence export in under 10 minutes

What You'll Do

Canopex takes your parcel boundaries and produces multi-source satellite evidence for EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) due diligence. Here's the journey at a glance:

1Sign in
2Upload parcels
3Check preflight
4Queue pipeline
5Review evidence
6Export report

What you'll need

  • A KML or KMZ file with your parcel polygon boundaries (see the KML Guide if you need to create one)
  • A web browser — no software to install

Your first 2 parcel assessments are free, no credit card required.

Your First Assessment

1 Sign in

Go to canopex.io/eudr/ and click Start Free. You'll sign in with a Microsoft, Google, or email account. No separate registration is needed — signing in creates your account automatically.

Once signed in, you'll see the EUDR workspace with your plan status, parcel quota, and run history.

2 Upload your parcel boundaries

In the New Due Diligence panel on the right, either:

  • Drag and drop a KML or KMZ file onto the file input, or
  • Paste KML text directly into the text area below

Your file can contain one parcel or many. Each polygon in the KML becomes a separate parcel that Canopex will assess individually.

Don't have a KML file? See the KML Guide for how to create one in Google Earth (free), or the Supplier Guide if you're collecting coordinates from producers.

3 Check the preflight summary

After uploading, the Preflight panel shows:

  • Features — total geometric features found in the KML
  • Parcels — number of areas that will be assessed (after splitting multi-polygons)
  • Spread — geographic extent of your parcels
  • Quota impact — how many of your parcel credits this will use

A mini-map preview shows your parcels on a satellite base layer so you can confirm the right areas were detected. If there are any issues (self-intersecting polygons, areas outside coverage), warnings appear below the map.

If the parcel count is higher than expected, your KML may contain overlapping or duplicate polygons. Open it in Google Earth to check.

4 Queue the due diligence pipeline

Click Queue Due Diligence. The pipeline progress tracker appears, showing each stage in real time:

  1. Uploading — your KML is uploaded and pipeline capacity is reserved
  2. Parsing — parcels are extracted and geometry is validated
  3. Acquisition — the system searches for post-December 2020 satellite imagery across Sentinel-2 and Landsat
  4. Fulfilment — scenes are downloaded and clipped to your parcel boundaries
  5. Enrichment — evidence layers are built: weather, fire/flood, WorldCover land classification, IO LULC, ALOS radar, per-parcel change detection and deforestation determination
  6. Complete — your evidence pack is ready for review

A typical assessment with 3–5 parcels takes about 5 minutes. You can leave the page and come back — your run will continue in the background and appear in History when complete.

Each step shows a progress indicator. The enrichment stage expands to show sub-steps as they complete, so you know exactly where things stand.

5 Review the satellite evidence

When the pipeline completes, the Evidence panel opens automatically. You'll see:

Satellite imagery map

An interactive map showing your parcels with satellite imagery overlays. Use the controls to switch between:

  • RGB — true-colour satellite imagery (what the ground looks like from space)
  • NDVI — vegetation health index (green = healthy vegetation, red/brown = bare soil or stressed vegetation)

If multiple time frames were captured, use the timeline slider or Play button to step through imagery over time and see how the land has changed.

Vegetation health panel

Shows the NDVI (Normalised Difference Vegetation Index) trend for your parcels. The sparkline chart shows how vegetation health has changed across each captured time frame. Stable green values indicate consistent forest cover; declining values may indicate clearing.

Climate context

Temperature and precipitation data for the assessment period, correlated with the NDVI data. This helps distinguish natural vegetation changes (drought, seasonal cycles) from human-caused clearing.

Change detection

Where enough time frames are available, Canopex runs pixel-level change detection comparing seasonal imagery. This shows areas of vegetation loss or gain with estimated hectarage.

Per-parcel evidence

For multi-parcel assessments, a selector lets you drill into each parcel individually. Each parcel shows its own NDVI statistics, determination status, and confidence level. Click a parcel name to see its specific evidence.

6 Run the EUDR assessment and export

Below the evidence display, two action buttons appear:

  • Assess EUDR — runs the deforestation-risk assessment against EU Deforestation Regulation thresholds. You'll see a clear result: ✓ No deforestation detected since Dec 2020 or ⚠ Potential deforestation detected, with a summary explanation.
  • Analyze with AI — generates a plain-English interpretation of the satellite evidence, explaining what changed, likely causes, and what it means for compliance.

Finally, use the export bar at the bottom to download your evidence:

  • PDF — audit-grade report with per-parcel determinations, NDVI data, and scene provenance. This is the document to attach to your EUDR due diligence records.
  • GeoJSON — machine-readable geospatial data with all metrics, suitable for integration with GIS tools or compliance databases.
  • CSV — tabular export of parcel metrics for spreadsheet analysis.
The PDF export is designed for audit use. It includes satellite scene IDs so any finding can be independently reproduced using the same source imagery.

After Your First Assessment

Reopen a previous run

All your due diligence runs are saved in the History panel on the left side of the workspace. Click any run to reload its evidence and exports. You can return to any assessment at any time.

Assess more parcels

Your free trial includes 2 parcel assessments. After that, subscribe for £49/month with 10 parcels included, and additional parcels at £3 each (volume discounts at 100+ and 500+ parcels). Click Billing in the workspace header to manage your subscription.

Invite your team

Canopex billing is per-organisation. The account owner can invite team members by email — invited users automatically join your org when they sign in, sharing your parcel quota and run history.
